A crowd of supporters have been in front of Seoul Presidential Palace in support of Yoon.
A clash of different authorities resulted in a dangerous standoff today (3) in South Korea’s capital Seoul, military personnel blocked police investigators from arresting impeached president Yoon at his residence.
Yonhap News agency reported that Investigators attempting to detain Yoon were able to enter the presidential residence compound but were blocked by the Presidential Guard military unit.

“Earlier, Yonhap stated that investigators from South Korea’s Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) had entered the presidential residence on Friday to execute a detention warrant for impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol.
‘The team executing the warrant comprises 30 people from the CIO and 120 police personnel, with 70 waiting outside the residence compound’, the report stated.”
Investigators were denied access to the palace by the Presidential Guard.
2,800 police officers were reportedly deployed to maintain order, as a huge crowd of Yoon’s supporters gathered at the residence.
“Yun Gap-geun, Yoon’s lawyer, announced plans to pursue legal action against what he described as the ‘illegal’ and ‘invalid’ execution of the detention warrant. According to Yonhap, Yoon’s legal team has requested an injunction from the Constitutional Court to suspend the warrant and filed a separate objection with the Seoul Western District Court.”
Investigators managed to move past the gates of the compound after a confrontation with a military unit stationed there. But then, the policemen were locked in a dangerous standoff with the Presidential Security Service (PSS) outside the presidential residence.
Police officers retreat after unsuccessfully trying to detain President Yoon.
Prosecutors and investigators presented warrants for Yoon’s detention and a search of the residence, but PSS chief Park Chong-jun refused entry, citing security restrictions on the premises.
The CIO has until Monday to execute the detention warrant, which accuses Yoon of insurrection and abuse of power in his short-lived imposition of martial law on December 3.
In the end, South Korean investigators have decided to halt the execution of an arrest warrant for the president due to security concerns.
