Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) delivered a trademark zinger during the confirmation hearing of Office of Management and Budget (OMB) nominee Russell Vought.
Kennedy questioned Vought on the reckless spending habits of the Biden administration and dropped a Biblical truth bomb that left fact-checkers reeling.
During the hearing, Sen. Kennedy laid bare the staggering federal spending increases under President Biden’s leadership.
“I used to read your suggestions during President Trump’s first term, many of which Congress ignored. We shouldn’t have. I am delighted that the President picked you. I have read that since 2019, the population of America has increased 2%, and our spending has increased 55% under President Biden,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy also highlighted the outrageous fraud within government stimulus programs, citing the jaw-dropping fact that in fiscal year 2023 alone, $1.3 billion in checks were sent to deceased individuals.
“I hope you’ll start with the low-hanging fruit. There’s a lot. When we sent out stimulus checks to save our economy, $1. 6 billion went to dead people, and the checks were cashed, obviously a fraud. OMB has estimated that in fiscal year 2023, we sent out $1. 3 billion of checks to dead people. Which were cashed, obviously fraud.”
“When you die in America, your name is sent to the Social Security Administration, and you become part of the master file,” Kennedy explained.
Despite his and Senator Carper’s efforts to implement reforms, they faced “pushback” and were forced to agree to a trial period that extended until 2026.
Kennedy asked Vought if he would support making the program permanent to stop paying dead people, to which Vought responded, “Yes, Senator.”
Then came the moment that had the chamber erupting in laughter.
Comparing the resistance Vought would face in Washington to Noah’s biblical trials, Kennedy quipped, “You’re going to be called crazy. They also called Noah crazy. Then the rains came, and all the fact-checkers died.”
