Now that Pete Hegseth has been confirmed by the Senate for Secretary of Defense, the next member of Trump’s new cabinet up for a vote is South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem as head of the Department of Homeland Security.
Noem’s nomination was just advanced by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee which means all that’s left is for the Senate to vote for her confirmation.
Noem is expected to get bipartisan support in the Senate, so her confirmation should not be as close as Hegseth’s.
FOX News reports:
Kristi Noem beats Senate confirmation hurdle, advancing to final vote for DHS role
The nomination of Gov. Kristi Noem, R-S.D., to be the next Homeland Security secretary defeated a key hurdle in the confirmation process on Friday night, advancing to a final vote later this weekend.
Her confirmation vote is expected to take place early Sunday morning.
If confirmed, Noem will become the fourth of President Donald Trump’s picks to be advanced out of the Senate, behind Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and incoming Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
Votes that are expected soon after Noem’s are those for Treasury Secretary nominee Scott Bessent, followed by Transportation Secretary pick Sean Duffy.
The South Dakota governor is expected to receive bipartisan support for her confirmation to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Her nomination advanced out of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) by a vote of 13-2. Only two Democrats voted against her.
Senator Mullin of Oklahoma tweeted this tonight.
We expect the @PeteHegseth vote at 9pm ET, then we’ll start the 30-hour debate clock on @KristiNoem to likely confirm her for DHS very early on Sunday morning. We must confirm the cabinet ASAP!
— Markwayne Mullin (@SenMullin) January 24, 2025
It will actually be a surprise if Noem is not confirmed. She will replace Alejandro Mayorkas, who will go down in history as the worst DHS chief ever.

Trump has been president for less than a week and some elites in the liberal media are already complaining that they’re exhausted. Won’t someone please think of the poor journalists?
After taking four years off to not fairly cover the Joe Biden presidency, they’re not used to having to actually do their jobs.
It’s not really a surprise that they’re tired. The man they’re trying to keep up with has more energy than most people.
Breitbart News reports:
Media Elites Whine They Are ‘Exhausted’ Just 5 Days into Trump’s Presidency
Establishment media personalities say they are already worn out from covering President Donald Trump and his resurgent drive to deliver the “Golden Age of America.”
Media elites did not have to work very hard during the previous administration.
President Joe Biden rarely gave interviews and appeared to hide from the public due to his health. Interviews conducted by the Wall Street Journal revealed Biden’s aides protected the “diminished” president from cabinet members, donors, pollsters, the media, and top Democrat lawmakers…
Day four “feels like month four,” Puck’s Tara Palmeri whined Thursday, noting she was hesitant to report the news for fear of “piling on to the deluge of Trump news.”
“Exhausted yet?” Susan Glasser, a staff writer at The New Yorker, asked readers in a report with a list of Trump’s immediate actions since taking office…
From The New Yorker:
Exhausted yet? It’s been three full days since Donald Trump returned to the Presidency, and so far he has pulled the U.S. out of the Paris climate treaty and the World Health Organization; announced the unilateral cancellation of the Constitution’s guarantee of birthright citizenship; reversed an order lowering prescription-drug prices for seniors; threatened a trade war with Canada and Mexico starting February 1st and an actual war with Panama if it doesn’t hand over the Panama Canal; declared an emergency at the southern border and moved to order thousands of U.S. military personnel there; eliminated federal government programs to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion and demanded that employees snitch on anyone inside the bureaucracy who might be tempted to continue doing such work anyway; and pardoned the vast majority of the pro-Trump insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, at his behest. And that was in between sword-dancing onstage to the Village People at an inaugural ball; cashing in on the Presidency by marketing the $TRUMP cryptocoin, currently worth billions of dollars; and getting in a pissing match with an Episcopalian bishop who dared to question him to his face.
Here’s CNN’s Jake Tapper announcing that he is exhausted.
CNN’s Jake Tapper is exhausted. What didn’t Trump do this week? He didn’t “torpedo” the economies of Canada (and by extension) the United States by imposing tariffs. pic.twitter.com/xPQefB1bgo

If they’re really exhausted, these people could do us all a favor and just quit. No one would mind.

Pete Hegseth (via @JasonMiller on X)
As he departed from Los Angeles on Friday night, President Trump responded to the news of Pete Hegseth’s successful confirmation as Defense Secretary.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, the Senate voted on confirmation of Pete Hegseth Friday after a 51-49 vote on Thursday to invoke cloture and break the filibuster.
RINO Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Susan Collins (R-ME) on Thursday voted against advancing Hegseth’s nomination to a final floor vote.
RINO Mitch McConnell (R-KY) then joined his fellow RINOs voting against Hegseth Friday, teeing up a tiebreaker vote by Vice President JD Vance. Vance was the tiebreaker, voting in favor of Hegseth’s nomination.
President Trump responded on Truth Social, “Congratulations to Pete Hegseth. He will make a great Secretary of Defense!”
After a roundtable conference on the wildfires in Los Angeles, California, President Trump spoke to the press and responded to the news.
He showed no regard for the three RINOs who voted against Hegseth when asked about McConnell’s vote and instead cheered on the victory. “I just heard that we won. Winning is what matters, right?” Trump said.
Watch below:
Trump: I’m honored to have Pete. I think Pete’s going to be a great Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, and we’re honored to have him. I think Pete is going to be a great Secretary of Defense.
Reporter: Are you disappointed that McConnell voted no?
Trump: I didn’t even know that, no. I don’t know that. I just heard that we won. Winning is what matters, right? So thank you very much everybody.

McConnell said he voted “no” because Hegseth failed to demonstrate whether he can manage an annual budget of nearly $3 trillion and 3 million military personnel.
Per Fox News reporter Chad Pergram:
McConnell on opposing Hegseth: Mere desire to be a ‘change agent’ is not enough to fill these shoes. And ‘dust on boots’ fails even to distinguish this nominee from multiple predecessors of the last decade. Nor is it a precondition for success. Secretaries with distinguished combat experience and time in the trenches have failed at the job.
Effective management of nearly 3 million military and civilian personnel, an annual budget of nearly $1 trillion, and alliances and partnerships around the world is a daily test with staggering consequences for the security of the American people and our global interests.
Mr. Hegseth has failed, as yet, to demonstrate that he will pass this test. But as he assumes office, the consequences of failure are as high as they have ever been.
The United States faces coordinated aggression from adversaries bent on shattering the order underpinning American security and prosperity. In public comments and testimony before the Armed Services Committee, Mr. Hegseth did not reckon with this reality.
President Trump pretty much confirmed McConnell is irrelevant.

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey is one of the Democrats who has vowed to defy Trump’s plans to deport illegal immigrants.

From WCVB News in Boston:
Gov. Healey on recent Massachusetts immigration arrests: ‘I support the apprehension of criminals’
Federal immigration agents were seen Wednesday taking a man into custody in Chelsea, Massachusetts, as well as making other arrests in East Boston.
Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey addressed the arrests, saying she wouldn’t be quick to call them “raids.”
“I wouldn’t describe them as raids,” Healey said.”What it seems to be, and what we expected and what I support, which is the apprehension of criminals in our communities.”
Healey said she supports arresting criminals — whether they are undocumented or not.
Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is pushing back after President Donald Trump promised a crackdown on immigration.
It’s likely that when Healey was blowing hot air about standing up to Trump, that’s all it was. Air. It was Democrat virtue-signaling.
When the reality of ICE showing up in Boston happened, it slapped her into reality.

In the US, conservatives have long manifested distrust of the Murdoch media, be it Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, or Fox News, due to the perceived shift in editorial stance, as well as mixed signals that at times support common sense policies, and at times betray it in the name of Globalist narratives.
But in the UK, the grievances are perhaps even more serious, as power celebrities and players denounce rogue investigative tactics such as illegal hacking of phones and even burglaries.
Hollywood Reporter reported:
“Hugh Grant has urged U.K. police to open a new criminal investigation into Rupert Murdoch’s News Group Newspapers (NGN) in the wake of Prince Harry’s landmark settlement, saying the job is ‘not done by any means’.”
Prince Harry settled his lawsuit against Murdoch papers for a reported U$12M.
On Wednesday (22), Prince Harry settled out of court just as his trial against the publisher of The Sun tabloid was about to start.
He claimed his privacy had been violated ‘by alleged phone hacking and unlawful information gathering’ carried out by journalists and private investigators working for The Sun.
Besides the reported U$12M payment, NGN also offered the Duke a ‘full and unequivocal apology’.
“British star Grant – recently nominated for a lead actor BAFTA for his performance in Heretic – also settled a privacy claim against NGN last year, later explaining he may have faced a bill of up to £10 million ($12.4m) – even if he had won. He had accused The Sun of using private investigators to tap his phone and burgle his house.”
Hugh Grant also settled with the Sun Group.
But now the star is calling for further action to be taken, saying a civil case is ‘not the right instrument’ to get to the truth, as NGN is ‘gaming’ the civil courts to silence victims.
“’That’s what they’ve done consistently over the last 10 years’, the actor said. ‘They’ve spent £1bn to make sure these things are never looked at in court… and you don’t get proper judicial findings. I think what they’re terrified of is that those findings would trigger a new criminal inquiry’.”
Grant says a criminal investigation is required as people working at The Sun at the time of the alleged crimes were ‘still in great positions of power’.
“He added: ‘A lot of the foot soldiers for those newspapers have now come over to our side […] to say this is awful. We’ve been punished, we’ve been to prison, we’ve paid fines, we’ve lost our jobs. But the people who commanded all this, they’re still there’.”
He is now calling on Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and the Metropolitan Police to investigate it to the bottom.

Jamie Raskin / House Judiciary Committee
As Democrats are still reeling from their incredible defeat in the 2024 presidential election, Congressman Jamie Raskin of Maryland has hired shrinks to try and set things right.
According to Punchbowl News, Raskin hosted a retreat for Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee where they hosted Jim Coan, a University of Virginia professor of psychology.
Another speaker was Hal Movius, a consultant whose specializations include “negotiation,” “influence,” “emotion regulation,” “leadership” and “organizational development.”
The report states:
The purpose of the session, according to multiple attendees, was to counsel Democrats about how to approach conflict and effectively combat what Raskin described as “authoritarian styles of speech.”
Another attendee said Judiciary Democrats were also advised to avoid devolving into partisan mud-slinging — a more common hallmark of the House Oversight Committee, which Raskin previously led as the top Democrat.
“They’re social psychologists, and they were just talking about communication and authoritarian styles of speech in the Trump age,” Raskin told us when asked about the speakers.
“We were talking about basically communication styles during the Trump era.”
Raskin, a former constitutional law professor, hosted the summit weeks after he was chosen as the top Democrat serving on the House Judiciary Committee.
The committee, which is chaired by MAGA Republican Jim Jordan, has led multiple investigations into Democratic crimes and corruption, including the Biden family’s corrupt business dealings, the weaponization of federal agencies for political purposes and a re-examination of the January 6th protests.
Raskin, meanwhile, has a reputation as one of the most unhinged Democrats in Congress.
Back in October, weeks before the election even took place, Raskin said he would not commit to certifying the 2024 election in the event of a Trump victory.
Months before that, he also pledged to block Trump’s victory using the 14th Amendment and create “civil war conditions” to prevent him from taking office.

The Senate on Friday night will vote on whether to confirm President Trump’s Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth after Senators voted on Thursday 51-49 to invoke cloture and break the filibuster.
Two toxic RINO Senators, Lisa Murkowski (AK) and Susan Collins (ME) voted against advancing Hegseth’s nomination to a final floor vote.
On Wednesday, Fox News’ Chad Pergram reported that GOP Senators Murkowski, Collins and Mitch McConnell may all vote against Hegseth in the final floor vote.
However, on Friday evening, The Wall Street Journal reported that Senator Thom Tillis (NC) who previously said he would vote ‘yes’ on confirming Hegseth, was still undecided. A ‘no’ vote from Tillis could sink Hegseth’s nomination if McConnell, Murkowski and Collins all vote no.
Hegseth can only afford to lose the support of three Senators. If three Senators defect, Vice President JD Vance would have to come in and be the tiebreaker vote.
Vice President Vance arrived at the Capitol on Friday evening to cast a possible tiebreaker vote after attending the annual March for Life.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has broken his silence on the 2020 Presidential Election between President Trump and Joe Biden. In a recent interview, Putin stated the President Trump had his victory “stolen” from him and that “perhaps the crisis in Ukraine that arose in 2022 wouldn’t have happened” if he had been re-elected.
The Russian leader also called out the previous “United States administration,” presumably Joe Biden, for refusing to “communicate” with Russia, stating that he had “business-like and pragmatic” relationship with the Trump administration before.
In a clip from an interview, Putin stated:
“I’d like to say that Russia never refused to come into contact with the United States administration and it is through no fault of ours that the previous administration refused to communicate. I always had business-like relations with the previous US President, that were very business-like and pragmatic. But there was trust as well.
If he had been the President, if the victory wasn’t stolen from him in 2020, maybe the Ukrainian crisis that arose in 2022 would have [appeared]”

President Trump has often asserted that the invasion into Ukraine would have never happened under his leadership. Earlier this week, The Gateway Pundit reported that President Trump on Truth Social called for Putin to “MAKE A DEAL” and urged that no more lives should be lost:
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he will need “at minimum” 200,000 troops from the EU in order to sustain any peace agreement with Russia while ruling out the Kremlin’s demand to reduce Ukraine’s military to one-fifth the size of its current alleged 800,000 troops.
